Boat rental reservations & safety waivers required. Space is limited, pre-registration required.

$10 with your own boat & safety equipment OR $20 with a boat & equipment rental from Nature Up North.

Join SLCCHC director Carlene Bermann & Nature Up North for a scenic paddle of approximately 4 miles on the Grasse River from Pyrites to Canton. The tour will start and end at Taylor Park, where parking is available. A shuttle will then bring participants and boats to the kayak and canoe launch point in Pyrites. Along the way, the shuttle will stop to view some remains of the DeGrasse Paper Mill, the hydropower dam, and what was once the bustling downtown of Pyrites. On the Grasse River, paddlers will see remnants of pyrite mines and concrete foundations. This remote stretch of river is also home to many fish, bird, and plant species. Prior river paddling experience recommended as water conditions on the Grasse River can be unpredictable, and several spots are shallow/rocky and have potentially strong currents.

Tour may be rescheduled or canceled due to weather or unsafe paddling conditions. Registered participants will be notified of any changes by 4:00 PM on Friday, August 2. Deadline to register is Thursday, August 1.
