In this Brown Bag Presentation, author Sally Svenson will discuss her latest book, “Adirondack Photographers, 1850-1950,” published by Syracuse University Press in 2023.

Sally Svenson has been writing about Adirondack history since the early 2000s. Her latest book includes brief biographies of approximately 225 photographers who worked in the region from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s.

A surprising number of photographers covered industrial and resort sites in St. Lawrence County, including Cranberry and Star Lakes, Newton Falls, and Wanakena. Sally’s presentation will cover them and feature samples of their work.

About Sally Svenson:

Sally Svenson has been writing books and magazine articles about Adirondack history since the early 2000s. The topics she’s covered are widely dissimilar, including church architecture and an obscure Duchess of Marlborough. She has recently completed a manuscript on Adirondack theme parks, a phenomenon of the 1950s through the 1970s, now out for peer review with a regional academic publisher. A New York City resident for much of the year, Sally spends summers at her family’s home on Upper Saranac Lake.
