Join Jan Wojcik as he explores the life of Civil War captain Thomas Hickey. Hickey was born in Canada of immigrants from Ireland and moved to Potsdam in the 1850s. Recruited to the war effort, Hickey soon rose to the rank of captain, overseeing Company A of the 164th Regiment, featuring many of Irish heritage. While eligible for resignation before his final battle, he choose to remain with his troops at the Battle of Cold Harbor.
Jan Wojcik is a professor emeritus of Clarkson where he taught literature. He also served as chair of the Board of Trustees of the Potsdam Public Museum. Wojcik has presented a program on Hickey in the past, with this version featuring new material.
